I might add OSL to his face, and thus making his eyes shine bright with blue to further represent his ability to command the raging winter storms of Fenris by his mind. Either that or I will paint Gammelman's (the Wolf Priest) face a tad warmer in the shades to make him look like less of a corpse :P

Managed to finish the Wolf Guard as well as add burnt (tried to make it look burnt) on the Power Sword on the previously finished model.

Now I need to finish the last 2 from the first squad then I'm gonna start with my Wolf Priest, "Gammelman", (Old Man; a character from a Swedish humor TV series about vikings, he is the village's elderly shaman).

I have finally managed to get me arse out of the wagon and started on my space puppies once more.

One done, two 90% done (with faces, blood and a few details left).

I'm fully aware that his tip of the sword looks "chunky" in the pic, I redid the tip so it's nice and smooth now (at first I forgot it was supposed to be a frostblade and not a normal power sword and thus painted it glowing green so it's been redone 3 times ><).

I'm thinkin' about adding some dripping blood from the sword, C&C on that?

Alrighty, I got a bit off track for a while with school, and some new PC games hitting the market, etc.

but now I've managed to finish my Ultramarine chapter master (the night before the tourney starts.... -_- ).

here he is (and now I can go back to my wolves :D)

A blast from the past

My old man sent me an email with a few pics taken when I was somewhere between 11-13 years "old".

This is how I painted back then (Completely horrible)

And I DID play Fantasy back in the day... (Shame on me)

Oh and sorry about no updates on the wolves or the Ultramarine, the Ultrad00d will be complete tonight hopefully; have been a lot of stuff getting in the way. The Wolves will be resumed once he is complete.

More work on my Ultramarine

The cape is now done (after the pic was taken I added a red wash to bind the colors together as well as tidied up one of the highlights).

The Sword have also received maybe 4-5 more layers on the golden NMM.

And yes, the small bumps on the cape have been taken care of (2 of them was mould-"dots" which I didn't see until I had highlighted them :P)

Something out of the "ordinary"

So... I know this is out of the ordinary but since I'm going to take part in a duals tournament with my pal Dennis over at: minisofdeath.blogspot.com very soon at GW Stockholm and my wolves aren't anywhere even remotely close to done (as you all can attest to :P) I will be playing with my tabletop standard Ultramarine army (I painted this army about 10 years back, and I started with Ultras back in the 2nd edition when I was just a juve so don't go bashing on me for having kept with my chapter all this time ;P).

I needed a Chapter Master armed with nothing but a normal CC weapon and a bolt pistol, which none of my HQ's had (I'm not used to playing only 750p games :P) I went out and bought Sicarus, because he screams Ultramarines.

My original plan was to make him tabletop standard, but I failed quite large when I realised I spent quite some time on the head alone, so not the entire model had to be painted to a good standard, but I figured that since there's both B&C's and GW Stockholm's painting comps. coming up real soon I might as well paint him nice and add him to my line-up of competing models :P

This was my first go at NMM (Having not read any guides on it either), he will have golden NMM shoulder pads, a crimson red/decorated tan cape and white ropes when done on top of what's painted now. Might also add some freehand on the cape.

Since this is my first NMM model ever, comments and critisism are greatly appreciated on this one.

Alrighty, managed to get my 5th wolf "complete" (he needs pupils but to be quite honest I don't have a brush small enough to make it happen... :/ )

And now it's off to paint another 5 before the 1st :P

Alrighty, I've had the apartment for myself Saturday -Monday (that's right, the "vacation" isn't over yet ^^,) and thus I've enjoyed some great live metal DVDs (Amon Amarth, Dark Tranquility, Arch Enemy, Vital Remains, etc.) while painting.

These guys are almost done (well, like 70% done at least :P)

Oh and I'd love some input on what color I should use for my plasma coils on these guys.
I've used green for my Black Legion, Blue for my Ultramarines and I'm thinkin' a bright orange for these guys, but I'm concerned about the amount of red/reddish colors on them already, will it be too much (seeing as they already have red eyes, red shoulder pads and red on the backs of the pelts as well as on the gems) ?

Weathered Wolves.....finally

Sorry for the delay, School and some other things *cough* Dragon Age: Origins *cough* halted my painting progress for a little while, but now I've been working on this tutorial for you guys over about 3 days time. And it's done :D

Step one:

Basecoat the model with Adeptus Battle Grey

Step 2:

Drybrush with Fortress Grey

Step 3:

Wash the model Babab Black

Step 4:

Drybrush Codex Grey, in this step I try to get more paint where the light is supposed to be hitting the model's surfaces.

Step 5:

Now Drybrush with fortress Grey again, still keeping in mind where the light is supposed to hit the surfaces (this is only if you want to achieve such an effect on the model).

Step 6:

Highlight the model with Fortress Grey

Step 7:

Now I create an 1:10 mix of Vermin Brown : Water and wash the darker/deeper areas of the model.

Step 8:

Now I create an 1:10 mix of Scorched Brown : Water and go over the entire model, but I try to get more in the darker/deeper parts of the model.

Step 9:

Now I go back, highlighting all the most prominent areas of the model.
You are now done :D

And just to show you guys why on earth it took 3 days to complete the tutorial, well... I kind of did it on many models at the same time....

I'm hoping you'll enjoy this tutorial, please comment if you do :)

And I'll try to have 2-3 more models finished with my next post.

Goldielocks gone bad?

Alrighty, you saw him "completed" in the blood tutorial but he deserves to be shown 100% complete.

(His brother wanted to tag along for the photoshoot as well :P )

Alrighty, since I managed to finish the 2nd space pup just now I am also bringing you the blood tutorial, step by step.

For this you will need:
-Stripple Brush (I cut one of my older drybrushes)
-Tamiya Clar Red Paint (this one in particular is needed)
-Chaos Black + Water (or Black Ink for those that still have it from the time when Citadel still had it in their range.

Step 1:

Stripple Tamiya Clear Red thickly on the places you want blood.

Step 2:

Wait for 30-40 seconds (I usually wait around 15-20 sec but that's because I have a hot lamp close by) which allows the Tamiya color to coagulate a bit.
Now Use the stripple brush to stab at the red, taking away some and giving texture to the painted area (making it look more gory).

Step 3:

Now create some black ink (1:1 Chaos Black : Water) or just use Black ink along with about as much Tamiya Clear Red as seen.
Mix them together and stripple over the clear red on the previously painted area; keep in mind not to cover all the brighter red.

Step 4:

Now redo the process of using an empty stripple brush to stab at the blood and remove the most of it (remember to again wait 30-40 sec for it to coagulate).

And now you're done.
Just to show how it looks on other areas I've made it to look that this model have been walking in/around/on corpses and thus have gotten blood on his boots and in the snow where ha have walked (as well as blood dripped/sprayed from the sword).

I hope you enjoyed the blood, now get busy painting !

Furry Tuesday?

Alrighty, today I was SUPPOSED to study, but well, that went out of the window and in flew a cold harsh breeze.
That's right, I'm pretty much finished with my 2nd wolfy.
I redid all pelts, and finished them off with a nice bright contrasting red (this model will be the centerpiece in his pack). I then finished off the skulls mounted onto the chainsword and the bolter, and when I was in the 7th layer I discovered that the tan i was working with was not Bleached Bone, but Kommando Khaki -Nice surprise! (That's why it looked so darn dark, luckily for me I felt it looked better that way than by using the same bright color I use on the ornate Bolter Wolfhead decorations on other marines)...

I still haven't decided if he will get black or blond hair, his base is already done so all needed is the blood effects on his chainsword (which I'll do after the hair) and then he's done.

I also finished my Wolf Priest (building/sculpting) today since I got the top of the staff I needed in the mail yesterday..

I removed that pesky hourglass and replaced it with more furry godness :D

Back From The Snowy Outdoors

I've been gone for 2 weeks, spent some quality time around different places here in Sweden.
Enjoyed some nice game hunting, and just enjoyed the snowy outdoors in general.

But now I'm back and I've been working some on my 2nd space wolf.
He's far from finished and I'm veeery uncertain on the wolf pelts' colors.

I've also bought myself a Vindicator which will get some heavy work eventually.

Anyway, here's the Grey Hunter, when he's pretty much done I'll do the blood on him and then also toss up the blood tutorial at the same time.

Making Snow Bases Tutorial

Alrighty, my first real tutorial.

Since I put up my Space Pup on various sites I've gotten requests for how I make the snow bases.
It's quite simple actually.

Items you will need:
-PVA Glue (Do NOT use wood glue)
-Bicarbonate (Do NOT use baking soda)
-Water
-Mixing palette/plate/whatever works for you
-Skull white (or equivalent color)
-A brush you're not too fond of.

Alright, on to the pictures.

1) Paint the parts of the base/general surface you want to be covered with snow.

2) Mix up PVA glue, quite an amount of bicarbonate and water (pretty much to a 2:4:1 ratio), basically until it gains a very thick consistency.

3) Use the brush to add the mix onto the painted areas (I usually wait for the mixture to dry up somewhat (more like coagulate) in order to keep it onto the surface easier since it's more sticky and less running.

4) Sprinkle bicarbonate on top of the mixture before it's dry.

5) You will get something looking like this after you shake off the excess bicarbonate.

6) Here I created a rock before adding any snow with milliput, then painted it, to both give the base some height as well as more character.

7) Now when it's dry mix up some watered down white paint with PVA glue (from top to bottom: PVA glue, Skull White, Water).

8) Paint it over the bicarbonate (this helps create a much more snowy white color and at the same time it binds everything down, so we won't have bicarbonate falling all over when we handle the minis). Repeat this step until you've achieved the whiteness you want on your "snow".

Now just let it all dry and voilá! You've got snow!

Next up; There will be blood!

Finished my first out of two exams today, scored 24/27 so I'm overall happy today, might get some painting done :D

Anyway, I was a tad bored so I created a banner, it says, "Miniatures From Valhall" (of course) but I also have made an alternate version, shown here below, which do you prefer?

Finished Space Wolf

First Space Wolf I've ever painted.
Also pretty much the first one I've really taken my time to paint in many years.
Before I used to speed-paint (3-4 hours only per model) my Ultramarines, now I take 10-15 hours per model.

I'm really satisfied with the result, I'm through with shiny gold emblems and trims (have also painted a 2000+ Black legion Army in my past), with that in mind along with the fact that I want a very feral-looking Space Wolf army bolstered this paint scheme. The shoulder pads' colors were "taken" from the new Codex front. I really loved that deep red and tan/bone colored trims.

I will add extensive Celtic and Scandinavian freehand on the empty shoulder pad later (read: I need to learn to do it good before I use it on this model).

Might as well start by letting you all know what my current projects are:
-2000+ points worth of Space Wolves (this army will be built over an extremely long time period since I want it to be just as appealing to look at as it will be fun to play with it.)
-Van Saar Gang for Necromunda
-Cityfight board/underhive

So far I've only gotten the modelling work almost done on my Necromunda gangers and regarding the table me and Dennis (Author of the Miniatures Of Death blog) have gotten exactly nowhere but collecting tons of Necromunda bulkheads and various plastic ruins.

My real active project is my Space Wolves. Having played Ultramarines 5th Company since 2nd edition kind of wore me out, vanilla marine codex is something I don't want to look at for quite some time now.
I've started with modelling 9 Grey Hunters, 3 Wolf Guards in Power Armour, 5 Wolf Guards in Terminator Armour, 5 Wolf Scouts, and I'm 95% done with modeling one of my Wolf Priest.
